Terrific, but be careful during wireless setup

From time out of the box to time printing was about 15 minutes. It would have been 10 minutes except that I misunderstood one instruction during the wireless installation. A message comes up after entering your SSID network information that seems to suggest that all physical cables to the printer need to be disconnected at that time. Actually the USB must stay connected because information still needs to be sent to the printer by the USB cable. So wait until the message comes up that specifically states that the USB cable must now be disconnected, and it should all go well. I will also say that there is one window in which you type your network encryption key, but the entry box does not highlight as other boxes do. So that is confusing because it looks like this box will not accept any entry, but it does.

Because there is some ambiguity in the instructions, I'm taking off one star. I think the installation may not be easy for everyone to follow, but if you have installed other devices that use network encrytion, you will probably get it to all work on your first or second try.

The physical appearance of the printer is very nice. I like the ridged sides that let you pick it up and move it without feeling like it will slip out of your hands. All of the controls are on the top. I wish that there was a power led on the front panel so it can be seen from across the room.

The printer holds half of a ream. If using 8.5 x 11 paper, you have to lengthen the paper tray, which then sticks out of the back of the printer. It is not a significant amount, but do keep this in mind when you look at the dimensions of the printer itself. This is especially true if you are setting it up for legal size paper.

The printer comes with a USB cable, which is unusual these days, but a good thing to have immediately on hand. Good job Samsung! Also inside the box is a power cord and a cd with installation software. There is also a paper copy of the network installation manual and a general installation guide on one large sheet of paper. Also an unpacking and installation guide is printed on one of the inner flaps of the box.

The print quality is excellent and I'm happy with the speed of printing. I recommend this printer for homes and small offices.

Well, it Prints.

The Samsung ML-2955DW is a wireless black and white printer, with a duplex option.

The print quality is crisp and good.

I had problems duplex printing a thick paper, even when I had the printer set to thick paper. It had no problem when I used a standard thickness paper. I found it difficult to simply choose duplex from the print options. I had to set up Eco mode to do this which isn't intuitive, and required extra clicks to choose one option.

Setup was easy for me. I am not a network expert, but I have good familiarity with a home network. All I had to do though was plug printer into outlet, plug a USB cord from the printer to my computer, and run the install CD that included network setup. As long as you know the wireless access password, you should have no problems. There is an option to use for other computers to just install drivers once the printer is set up.

It also supports Wireless Protected Setup(WPS) but as this standard is implemented insecurely, I have it disabled on my router. I did not test it.

The printer has quick acting sleep mode. This will save you energy. It is adjustable.

At one point I clicked the User Guide button in the included software, and nothing happened. The button appears not to function at all.

There is an app I got from the Google Play store (also available on iTunes) that I should have been able to print from. It was actually easier to choose options than from my computer, but I wasn't able to get it to print.

In all, the printer prints great B/W prints, network setup was simple, but a few things in the UI aren't as good as they could be, and some of the features such as the app were disappointing. If they are improved over time, it will increase the quality of experience you will have with the printer. If the price is right, it is a good buy so long as the mentioned issues aren't show stoppers for you.

Good small office or home office printer

The installation of the printer was easy and completely trouble free. Printing was good at a decent speed and quality was very acceptable. Certainly very well suited for a small home office or as a personal printer at work. It would be overwhelmed as a shared printer for an office of more than 5. A big plus was the USB cable was supplied unlike another major brand as part of the product. The free "Samsung Mobile Print" App downloadable from Apple took quite a bit of figuring out to get working.

I have to point out that when the printer starts to print, the lights in my office flicker a bit. I'm not sure if that is due to EM interference or if there is a big current draw. It certainly has never occurred with my other older HP laser printers.

all in all, a good alternative to the lower cost Brothers and HPs.

Love the printer! Use it in my office everyday and it works very well. Prints quickly with no problems.
